Ok so when i was initially building the forum i wanted to make some kind of private messaging system. cos at the moment theres no way to talk privately to another member. and posting on a users personal page does not always get this users attention.
On the other hand the nodesforum is exceptional in its capability to work with the existing user system of your site so thats why i felt that some implementations of the nodesforum might be better without a PM system. because some sites might already have their own PM system and i guess webmasters would not want to have 2 different PM messages in their site, cos ppl are not gonna check all their messages.
for example on 2meet4free i wouldnt want the forum to have a private messaging system cos i prefer that everybody uses the already existing main PM system. and also on any site that already has its own user system, i feel its better if the PM system is part of the main site and not the forum.
but some sites dont already have a PM system and especially for those who want to run just a forum on its own, a PM system is really lacking to make the forum really a good community tool.
so thats kind of why a PM system was not included in the first version of the forum and when i add it (soon...) it will be optional so that ppl can chose to not have the forums PM system if their site already has one
